About Drayton Reservoir

Drayton Reservoir is a day ticket and match fishery which has been renovated in recent months. The work has included the rebuilding of the most popular pegs together with improvements to the facilities and the resurfacing of the access road. The fishery is now busier than ever and it is necessary to book as much as two years in advance for matches. Day -ticket anglers can usually secure a peg.

The Carp Fishing at Drayton

Carp in the Stillwater average 14ibs but some specimens are over 40lbs. Matches have yielded 400lb catches in a six hour sitting and recently, during a sell-out weekend, several anglers caught over 700lbs of carp in one day. One angler banked 54 fish over 20lbs in two days. The fishery has been breaking records since it first opened and so little wonder that it boasts such an impressive reputation.

Don't Leave Your Tackle

The fishing is so good at Drayton Reservoir that anglers are warned not to leave their tackle unattended, even for a minute. In recent years over 500 rods and poles have been pulled into the lake! In addition to the impressive carp fishing, you can also fish for perch, roach, tench and pike. The lake features pike specimens over 26lbs.

The Pegs

The fishery now looks better than ever. There are 123 jetty style pegs at the site, many with a very appealing aspect and there are a further 10 pegs on the damn wall. You can choose from tree backed and reed lined bays and more open pegs, if you can snaffle a booking. The deepest water is at the dam wall. Access to the pegs is easy as there is a wooden walkway around the lake.

The Best Time to Fish

The water in the reservoir retains heat well and so the best fishing is from July to December. You can fish from dawn till dusk or purchase a night fishing ticket. Even beginners and first time visitors have experienced an extraordinary day carp fishing at Drayton reservoir.
