The Muskie is a large freshwater fish belonging to the pike family (Esocidae). It can reach an impressive size of up to 70lbs and is found in Canada and the northern United States. Its coloring is typically silver-green to olive, with darker spots or vertical bars on the sides. It is easy to distinguish from its cousins as it has 6-9 sensory receptor pores on the underside of the jaw and a pointed tail fork and fins, whereas Pike have 4-5 receptor pores and rounded fins. Muskies feed mainly on fish, but they are also known to attack and consume swimming ducks, birds, amphibians and even rodents. A hybrid of Pike and Muskie is called a Tiger Muskie.
