The common dentex (Dentex dentex), a member of the sparidae family, is a large predatory fish found in the Eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean. It inhabits shallow coastal waters, with a preference for rocky and sandy bottoms, and feeds primarily on fish, mollusks and cephalopods. It can grow up to one meter in length and weigh around 15 kg, making it a favorite among European sea fishermen for its culinary attributes.
